Diplopia

This piece takes a familiar view to Penn medical students—the lobby of the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine—and doubles it. It was inspired by a disorienting experience in the bright, windowed walls of this building, trying to navigate home with dilated eyes after an ophthalmology visit just two floors below the medical school. Diplopia explores the duality of being both a patient and physician-in-training in the same space. It centers on the experience of seeing double and honors the liminal, out-of-focus space that many physician-patients find themselves existing within.
