This is a painting that captures the spirit of black power and black freedom at a time where the political climate is once again trying to whitewash history and the face of the USA. The idea of reparations to white people for the “harms they experienced under policies of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” is a ludicrous example of this climate. Blackness is power. Blackness is joy, love, and patience. Blackness is beauty and perseverance. Blackness is holding two opposing truths at the same time. It is existing—and thriving—within blatant contradictions.
