2 photos from recent trips to places I’ve never been before.
Untitled #6
I took this photo while on a roadtrip with Ben and Ashwin along the eastern coast of Newfoundland, Canada. We decided to visit the Brimstone Head, a giant rock right on the edge of the province. The Flat Earth Society calls the mountain the “northeast corner of the world,” which I thought was really funny until we finally made it there. From the top, the Atlantic looks like it just drops off at the horizon, like a threshold you have to cross before sailing out into outer space (or make it to Europe, I guess). It felt like an apt place to have traveled to this semester, given that we’re approaching the transition point between pre-clinical courses and the wards.
Untitled #7
I took this photo while visiting Nanjing, China with my cousin and niece this past summer. This was on the old city wall that runs around most of the main city, near the gate to the Xuanwu Lake area. It feels like there are multiple time periods going on at the same time in the image, a guy driving a 1980s-style cargo bike across a wall built in the late 1300s next to my niece using a camcorder. It ties up real nice.
