At father’s house in the suburbs:
My ears stop ringing.
I can think.
My lungs fill with fresh air.
I can breathe,
My heart rate slows.
I can relax.
My eyes drink up the darkness.
I sleep soundly.

I drive back to Philadelphia.:
Red light. Blue light. The Doppler effect.
My thoughts wander: when I finish school…when I finish training, I do not wish to live near the red light, the blue light, or the Doppler effect.
How lucky I am to have that choice.
