Artist’s Note:
For the theme of Beginnings, I created a dypthic that represents my introduction to medical school. Taken together, the panels symbolize the range of emotions and experiences that the past 3 months have brought; with incandescent, saturated brightness on the left and a toned down, subdued mood on the right. On the left panel, the contrasting green eye speaks of the looming presence that expects the best of us at all times and can make us blind to what is in front of us. The glitter takes it over the top and presumes everything is alright. On the right, the blue/green flame fuels the tone of survival and provides intrinsic motivation. The most important element of the piece is the web-like lines that cross over the panels. Reminiscent of a neuronal cell network, they represent the paths available in one’s life at any given time. On the left panel, they are flat and unimpressive. On the right panel, many lines end unceremoniously, some are frayed, others burned. At the same time, some are brought together by force (rubber band), others are held down (staples and push pin).

Media: linoleum print, shaving cream print, wite out, staples, yarn, rubber band, push pin, glitter
